UPDATE: Driver charged with multiple violations, GoFundMe page created for critically injured Wareham tow truck driver
The driver who critically injured tow truck driver Jonathan Tetreault, 33, of Wareham, last Sunday morning was charged with multiple driving violations, according to State Police.
The driver was charged with speeding, a marked lanes violation, failure to change lanes for an emergency vehicle, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. He has been summoned to appear in court.
Tetreault, who works for Marc's Auto Service, was hit by another car, when he pulled over to the side of the road to help a driver, just north of Exit 4 on I-495 northbound in Middleboro. Tetreault was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Tetreault and his family, and has raised $3,105 of the requested $5,000. Tetreault’s family has also organized a rally in Brockton to raise funds and awareness about the Move Over Law in Massachusetts. The law mandates that drivers approaching stopped emergency vehicles or maintenance vehicles with flashing lights move over to the next lane, in order to avoid hitting them.
As of Thursday, a spokesperson for Rhode Island Hospital said Tetreault remains in serious condition.
