UPDATE: High winds cause 5,700 power outages in Wareham Tuesday night

Mar 17, 2015

As many as 5,700 power outages were reported in Wareham Tuesday evening after high winds whipped through the town.

According to Eversource (formerly NStar) representative Rhiannon D’Angelo, 5,700 customers in Wareham experienced a power outage shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday night, “due to high winds damaging some equipment and bringing down some lines.”

She said falling tree branches were the most likely culprit for bringing down power lines.

D’Angelo said 3,800 of the 5,700 customers with outages had their power restored within a half hour.

By 9 p.m. Tuesday night, power was restored to all the remaning customers with outages, according to D’Angelo.
