UPDATE: Victim identified in Onset drowning
An Onset man drowned off of Sias Point near an area popular with shell fisherman Monday afternoon, according to Wareham Police.
Manuel Garcia, 85, was pronounced dead at Tobey Hospital after being treated at the scene and then at the hospital.
Police say that evidence suggests the incident was accidental.
Personnel from each of the Wareham Police Department, EMS, and Harbormaster Department as well as the Onset Fire Department responded to the Sias Point area at 4 p.m. on Monday after a resident reported seeing a man floating in the water.
Garcia, who was a fisherman in the past, was also the head chef at the popular Feast of the Blessed Sacrament in New Bedford for the past 10 years, responsible for feeding hundreds of thousands of people each summer.
