Updated: Three people escape serious injury in Marion Road rollover crash

Aug 7, 2011

Three people were transported to Tobey Hospital with minor injuries following a rollover crash on Marion Road which occurred just after 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The accident happened at the intersection of Marion Road and Swifts Beach Road.

Wareham Police Lieutenant Kevin Walsh said a white pick-up truck turned onto Marion Road from Swifts Beach Road and collided with a black sedan that was traveling in the direction of Town Hall.

The impact of the crash caused the sedan to roll onto its roof. The pick-up rolled onto its side, spilling debris into the roadway.

The driver of the pick-up was cited for "failure to use care" when pulling onto Marion Road, Walsh said.

Police could not immediately release the names of the injured parties, the occupants of the vehicles, because the investigation of the crash is ongoing, Walsh said.

The impact of the accident rocked resident Judy Bourque's house The sedan came to rest directly in front of her home.

"It sounded like it was going to come through my house," said Bourque.

Bourque said accidents are common on that stretch of Marion Road.

"We see them all the time ... because [people] go so fast," she said. "It's ridiculous."

Over the years, cars have collided with the chain link fence and crashed into some of the trees in Bourque's front yard.

"I moved my daughter's toys into the back yard," Bourque said. "I can't believe they say that this road is safe."

Wareham Police, Wareham Fire, and Wareham EMS responded to the scene. Marion Police and EMS contributed mutual aid, while Onset Fire provided station coverage.
