UPDATED: Two injured in Cape Cod Express explosion, cause unclear
Two people were injured when a box truck caught fire following an explosion at Cape Cod Express just before 2:30 a.m. on Thursday.
One of the injured parties received facial burns, while the other hurt his neck and back, said Captain Paul Reidy of the Wareham Fire Department.
Both of the victims were taken to Tobey Hospital. One was released, and the other was transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Reidy said.
The cause of the fire, which spread from the truck to the Cape Cod Express warehouse, is under investigation by the Wareham Fire Department.
"After the explosion, one of the workers jumped in the truck and pulled it away from the building," said Reidy, which prevented further damage to the building.
The area was later surveyed by the state hazardous materials team, the Department of Environmental Protection, the state Fire Marshal's office, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
A total of 20 people were working at the warehouse at the time of the blaze, according to Wareham Fire officials.
The fire caused $100,000 worth of damage to the truck and $5,000 in damage to the warehouse, fire officials said.
Onset Fire, Carver Fire, and Wareham EMS also responded to the scene.
The fire was determined to be completely extinguished at approximately 8 a.m., officials said.
