Vikings dismantle Blue Devils
In an effort to gain a share of the conference title, the Wareham Vikings boys basketball team beat Fairhaven on Feb. 9. Wareham totaled 31 points at the half, while Fairhaven totaled 30 points at end of the fourth quarter.
The final score for the Vikings: 63-30.
“These guys knocked off Old Rochester and Case who both beat us this year, so we used that in our pregame a little bit,” Brogioli said.
The Vikings held Fairhaven to just two points through the first quarter, but Brogioli was unsatisfied with his team’s 11-2 lead.
“I thought we could have been up 25-2 in the first quarter,” Brogioli said. “We missed a lot of shots earlier, some layups.”
Brogioli was happy with his team’s work on the defensive end, though.
“We didn’t give up too many easy shots. They had to work for everything they got,” Coach Kevin Brogioli said. “We got them to commit multiple five second violations, call a lot of timeouts and we trapped well.”
Also impressing Brogioli was the perimeter shooting of Mason Vasoncellos, who led the Vikings with 18 points. Vasconcellos dropped six shots from beyond the arc to get his 18 points.
“It was nice to see Mason stroking his 3-point shot again,” Brogioli said. “We had gone a few games without any, so it was nice to see him know some down.”
Up next for the Vikings will be a team they lost to earlier in the season. They will play Case on Feb. 11.
“We still need to win three more league games in a row to at least clinch at least a co-championship.”
