Vikings routed by undefeated Somerset
A late 4th-quarter score kept the Vikings from being shut-out last Friday evening, but the game was otherwise all Somerset.
"I'm disappointed we didn't play well, I always go into the game believing we're going to win," said Vikings Coach Dan Nault after the 38-8 defeat. Nevertheless, he said that individual performances shouldn't be overlooked. "I am pleased with the progress we saw tonight from some of our players."
Most notably, running back Eric Souza had several good runs that gave Viking fans a bit of hope, especially when combined with face-masking and pass-interference penalties by the Somerset defense, which gave the Vikings 60 yards.
Otherwise the Somerset defense was immobile. The lone Viking score was within the two-minute warning when Somerset had pulled its top defensive players. This allowed the Vikings to drive 48 yards in seven plays before Charles Tranfaglia broke through for an 18-yard fun into the end zone.
But the Somerset offense had contributed more than enough in the first half to walk away with the win: By halftime, the score was already 31-0 and Somerset had rushed for 268 yards.
The loss brings Wareham's record to 1-4 with three straight losses.
