VIPs raid the Salvation Army
There were more than 400 VIPs at the Salvation Army on Friday, August 6, as customers flocked to the Cranberry Highway store after signing up for a special shopping evening with special discounts on used clothing, accessories and the sundry other items that can only be found at "Sally's."
"People were calling while driving by on Rt. 6, asking what was going on," said store manager Stephani Ricci, as she described the line that stretched around the parking lot before the doors opened at 7 p.m.
They should have signed up - along with the 600 other people who registered and about 400 who attended the three-hour event - as Ricci said that the sale was such a success that they plan a second VIP night soon.
"We not only had some great feedback from the customers, but sold some good products, lot of people had a nice night out, and raised some money," said Ricci.
The event raised a total of $3,700 which will be used to support the location's main benefiting charity, the Men's Rehabilitation Center, in Brockton, as well as other Salvation Army activities such as soup kitchens and children's camps.
Ricci attributed the event's success to her staff - the real "VIPs" at the store.
"Everybody worked very hard not only on that night but the days before, setting up the floor and getting everything ready," said Ricci. "The reason it was called VIP night was because the staff was to help give support - we couldn't do it without our staff and customers."
Nevertheless, she is glad the stress of the sale, and its preparations, are over for the time being.
"I felt a little bit like a Bridezilla," she admitted, jokingly.
