A visit from Presidents of the past

Feb 29, 2016

The entire line of U.S. Presidents could be found in the halls of the John W. Decas Elementary school on Feb. 24.

The school's first graders, armed with political and historical knowledge, put on the school's 13th annual skit for an audience of parents and teachers, said teacher Suzanne Allen.

Each student in the first grade classes randomly chose a president to portray in a Hall of Presidents skit, Allen said. The students had three homework assignments to complete, and each one challenged the students to research factual information about his or her chosen president.

The final product was a presidential report, and a speech the children delivered during the skit for their parents and teachers. Each child dressed in a period costume that their respective President would have worn.

The last part of the project can still be seen in the hall of Decas Elementary School: a wall of hand-drawn portraits of the Presidents.
