Walk-ups welcome as Southcoast vaccine clinics open to those 12 and older

May 13, 2021

Anyone aged 12 and over is now eligible to get the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine at Southcoast Health clinics across the region — and walk-ins are still welcome, the not-for-profit health system announced on May 13.

The decision comes after the federal Food and Drug Administration authorized use of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccination for kids aged 12-15 earlier this week.

Minors will need to have a parent or legal guardian sign a Massachusetts consent form at the clinic or bring a signed copy downloaded from mass.gov/lists/ma-consent-forms-for-people-under-18-years-of-age, Southcoast officials said.

The form must include a parent or legal guardian’s phone number in the event a staff member needs to contact them.

Despite the FDA’s authorization and new Centers for Disease Control recommendations for the change, state-run mass vaccination sites have yet to expand vaccinations to 12-15 year olds.

“The Administration awaits further guidance from the federal government following the [Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices] meeting on Wednesday and is actively planning for the vaccination of 12-15 year old individuals,” stated a spokesperson from the Massachusetts Covid-19 Response Command Center. “Individuals 12-15 can preregister now for vaccination by visiting mass.gov and receive an email with booking instructions as soon as this expanded eligibility begins.”

Southcoast clinics are being offered at the Vanity Fair Outlet at 375 Faunce Corner Rd. in Dartmouth, the Liberal Club at 20 Star St. in Fall River, and the Multiservice Center at 48 Marion Rd. in Wareham.
