Wareham Crossing Best Buy location to close

Apr 15, 2012

Best Buy in Wareham Crossing will be closing, possibly within weeks, the company announced on Saturday, April 14.

The Richfield, Minn. company announced in late March that it would close 50 stores. The Wareham store was one of 42 that the company on Saturday revealed would close.

Signs inside the Wareham Crossing location indicate the store will close on May 12. According to a statement released by the company, most of the locations on the list will also close by May 12.

"This was not an easy decision to make," Best Buy representatives wrote. "We chose these stores carefully, and are working to ensure the impact to our employees will be as minimal as possible, while serving all customers in a convenient and satisfying way."

The affected employees will be offered positions at other locations.

"If they don’t find new positions, or if they choose not to work at a different location, a transition including severance packages will be available," according to the statement.

The Wareham Crossing Best Buy is one of just two locations the company will close in Massachusetts. The company is also closing its Newbury Street store in Boston.

The nearest Best Buy stores are in Plymouth, North Dartmouth, and Hyannis.
