Wareham CVS fined $500 for dirty bathroom, coolers

Unsanitary conditions in a bathroom and cooler prompted the Board of Health to fine a CVS on Cranberry Highway $500 on Wednesday.

Health Agent Robert Ethier said he received a complaint from a resident regarding a dirty cooler where milk is stored. The town’s building inspector, who was in CVS on a separate matter, alerted the Board of Health after noticing the condition of the bathroom. Ethier said the bathroom was unclean and contained a large amount of trash. The coolers were not clean and had old, spilled milk inside, said Ethier. The store is located at 2992 Cranberry Highway.

“These are unsanitary conditions and it’s right near the pharmacy,” said Ethier. “You would think they’d have a better policy of maintaining the bathroom.”

Because the store sells food, the unsanitary conditions violated a federal code, Ethier said.

No one from that CVS store appeared to discuss the violation.

Board of Health members unanimously approved the fine. Ethier noted inspectors would be out again soon and if the violations persist another fine would be issued.
