Wareham election ballot finalized, debate upcoming, write-in campaign announced

Mar 12, 2013

The ballot is printed, candidates' signs are popping up throughout town, and the countdown to the April 2 town election is on.

Voters will pick two of four candidates to fill three-year terms on the Board of Selectmen.

Up for re-election are Steve Holmes of Onset Avenue, who currently serves as chair of the board, and Cara Winslow of Peaceful Lane. Challenging the incumbents are Frank DeFelice of Maki Way and Patrick Tropeano of Dowd Avenue.

Claire Smith is seeking re-election for Town Moderator and is uncontested on the ballot, but Town Clerk Mary Ann Silva says that Bill Whitehouse of Highland Bay Drive has indicated that he will run as a write-in candidate for the post, and has submitted a letter to the Clerk's office saying so.

Whitehouse pulled papers for the position, but failed to get the required 50 signatures of registered voters in order for his name to appear on the ballot for the three-year term.

There are four additional races on the ballot. All are uncontested.

Judith Whiteside of Great Neck Road is running for a one-year Selectmen term, created by Ellen Begley's resignation earlier this year.

Silva, of Dinah's Way, is seeking another three-year Town Clerk term, while Rhonda Veugen is seeking re-election to the School Committee.

Roxanne Barboza of Swifts Beach Road is running for a three-year Board of Assessors seat, and Robert Powilatis of Cory Drive is seeking a five-year term on the Housing Authority.

Need an absentee ballot? Stop by the Town Clerk's office at Town Hall, 54 Marion Road.
