Wareham health center, food bank team up to offer free produce
Once a month, free fruits and vegetables will be served up to all at the Greater New Bedford Community Health Center - Wareham Site. Health center staff recently partnered with The Greater Boston Food Bank for the effort, which is designed to promote healthful eating.
Additionally, Wareham Site Manager Kathleen Minnock said she hopes to spread the word about services the center offers.
In 2015, the center opened at 135 Marion Road with a $1.4 million federal grant. The center has a staff of primary care doctors who are currently accepting new patients. It’s mission is to offer services to the uninsured and underserved, said Minnock.
“We want Wareham to know we’re here and there’s a lot we can offer many members of the community,” said Minnock.
Hopefully, the free, fresh produce is a start, she said. Everyone is welcome to help themselves, and there is no income requirement. Pre-registration is encouraged. To pre-register, call Joyce Dupont at 508-992-6553 ext. 142 or Minnock 508-742-3810 ext. 710. For more information on the health center, visit www.gnbchc.org.
Produce will be distributed at the site on the following dates at 10 a.m.: Oct. 24, Nov. 28, Dec. 19, Jan. 23, Feb. 27, March 27 and April 24. and May 22, June 2, July 24, Aug. 28.
