Wareham High School prepares students for their future

Mar 9, 2019

To the Editor:

This week, Wareham High School hosted an informational evening for parents, guardians and eighth grade students. The event included high school students, staff, coaches, club sponsors and administrators sharing information and answering questions, as well as highlights of different programs and opportunities available to students and a tour of the building.

Currently, the high school is home to 593 students, grades eight to 12. Wareham High School is fully accredited by NEASC, offers college prep, honors, online, AP and IB courses to all students. Students have the option of earning the traditional high school diploma or an International Baccalaureate diploma.

Students may choose to enroll in the dual enrollment program. In this program, students are registered for courses at Bridgewater State University and complete college courses while still in high school. Dual enrollment opportunities are also offered at the 8th-grade level, as 8th-grade students have the chance to take 9th-grade courses and earn high school credit.

Our students have many options to be active and involved in our school community, with over 20 clubs to choose from, 18 varsity sports, field trips, global education opportunities and community outreach initiatives.

Academic offerings include traditional academic classes, such as Math, English, History, Biology, etc., as well as many elective courses, depending upon student interest. Some examples of electives include: Mythology, Introduction to Drama, Contemporary Affairs, Studio Art, Video Production, Graphic Design, Technology Design, Entrepreneurship, Culinary Arts, AP Calculus, IB Math Standard Level, Zoology, Astronomy, Forensics, CAD, Woodworking/Millwork, and Spanish and French levels one through five. As well, academic support is available to students through peer tutoring, the SAIL program, student advisory and Upward Bound.
