Wareham Historical Society to honor Spinney Library namesake

The Wareham Historical Society will host a presentation by Nancy Cushman Rice about Florence Spinney Ottke on Monday, May 16 at 7 p.m. at the Methodist Meeting House, located at 495 Main St.

Florence Spinney Ottke (1892-1988) grew up spending summers in Onset and as an adult lived in Wareham for more than 50 years. She had professional careers as an actress and journalist. She also was active in her church and civic organizations. The Spinney Memorial Library is named in honor of her family.

The Wareham Historical Society will highlight her contributions to town life and culture, including the Monday Club, Tobey Guild, The Onset Women’s Club, The Onset Girl Scout Council and the Wareham Historical Society.

Refreshments will be served after the presentation. Admission is free for members free and cost $2 for non-members.
