Wareham Historical Society to host virtual garden tour

Jan 11, 2011

Join the Wareham Historical Society and Bob MacKenzie, lead gardener at the Adams National Historic Park, on January 17 at 7 p.m for a virtual tour of Peacefield, so named by John and Abigail Adams. The event will be held at the Old Methodist Meeting House, located at 495 Main Street.

In 1870, the country estate became known as the “Old House” by the decendents. According to MacKenzie, the gardens boast original lilacs, Wisteria and the Yorkist Rose, planted during John and Abigail's time, in addition to daffodils, delphiniums, four o'clocks, nasturtiums, sweet bay shrub and tree peonies.

As much as possible, the gardens today reflect the four generations of Adams' who have lived there. Social and refreshments will follow the program. Members attend free, non-members pay $2. For more information on the program or the Wareham Historical Society, call 508-273-0069.
