Wareham JROTC has a season of success

The Wareham JROTC recently finished a winter competition season with many notable performances in what is referred to as M-A-P (Marksmanship, Academic, and Physical Fitness).

Cadets from the program competed against nine other high schools in the region. This year, 35 cadets from the Wareham High program performed against schools that include: South Boston, East Boston, English (Jamaica Plain), New Bedford, Lawrence, Revere, Brighton, Commerce (Springfield), Methuen, and the Community Academy of Science and Health (Dorchester).

The marksmanship team under the leadership of senior Devin Fagundes finished in 4th place out of 12 teams with superior individual performances by senior Jason White, juniors Thorn Damiano and Joel D'Olimpia, and freshman Bradley Harunkiewicz, who all registered scores as sharpshooters. Juniors Daniel Nelson, Briana Syders, and freshmen Scott Frey and Amanda Hayden also contributed notable performances.

The academic team finished 3rd of 20 teams answering questions about current events, academic and military subjects. Team members were senior captain Kelsey Smart, sophomores Alexis Adams, Robert Drinkwater, and Kelsey Edwards, and freshmen Laura Biscoe, Jaylin Castro, Cammie Couto, Madison Greaves, Morgan Greaves, Tyler Litchfield, and Cameron Olson.

In addition, Tyler Litchfield finished 3rd overall out of 100 Cadets at the English High competition, and Alexis Adams finished 2nd overall at the Revere High competition.

The girls physical fitness team finished 1st in the shuttle run out of 15 teams at English High. The girls fitness team was led by senior Cheyenne Noland and consisted of seniors Sarah Keating, and Marie Murdock, sophomores Amber Borden, and Hunter Thatcher, and freshman Amanda Hayden and Leannah Thomas.

The boys fitness team demonstrated tremendous improvement during the course of the season led by senior captain Garrett Fillion, with fellow senior Cory Harukiewicz, juniors Zach Bell and Josh Childress, sophomores Tom Best, Josh Lima, Kevin Moran, Jayden Perry and Andy Thompson, and freshmen Scott Hatfield, and Raven Jones.
