Wareham JROTC nationally recognized by United States Army

Sep 21, 2015

Wareham High School's Junior ROTC program was nationally recognized as an "Honor Unit with Distinction," for School Year 2015-2016. The Department of the Army presents this award to JROTC units that maintain an exceptionally high standard of performance, and it is the highest rating a high school Junior ROTC program can achieve.

During the course of a year the Wareham JROTC program participates in a wide variety of competitions, adventure training, and community service projects. The 2015 schedule included the following:

Community Service Events
Among the many community service events were the setup and tear down, and Color Guard during the ALS Cliff Walk in Bourne; the Veterans Day Parade; organization and distribution of food baskets for Thanksgiving; organization of presents in the Wareham Toys-for-Tots program; crowd control for the Onset New Year's Polar Bear Plunge; and participation in the Memorial Day activities.

Competitions
Wareham competes in six events against the 12 Army JROTC schools in Massachusetts. These include Fall Drill Team, Fall Color Guard Team, Winter Academic Team, Winter Marksmanship Team, Winter Physical Fitness Team, and Spring Pentathalon Team.

Adventure Training
JROTC takes several field trips each year, including to a water obstacle course at Camp Edwards; aviation orientation in a military Blackhawk helicopter; and walking the Freedom Trail in Boston.
