Students from the Wareham High School Key Club, in partnership with Bourne High School, delivered items for children at the Tufts University Floating Hospital for Children and the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute on Dec. 5.

During the past month, the Key Club conducted a school-wide drive to collect items the children could use while staying at the hospital. Thanks to the support of the school community, students collected more than six boxes of items that included books, arts and crafts materials, board games, colored pencils, crayons, bubbles, playing cards, kids' movies, and blankets.

On Saturday, Dec. 5, Wareham and Bourne students delivered the contributions and to attend a day-long open house at the downtown Boston hospital to gain a more thorough understanding of the hospital operations. The day began with a presentation by Tufts' Pediatric Trauma Nurse Coordinator, followed by another presentation by one of the University's Pediatric Surgeons. Following the briefings, the students listened to the keynote speakers, two pediatric trauma survivors from the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombings. The students were then taken on a tour of the hospital.

The following Wareham students attended: Alex Atkinson, Jenna Burk, Emily Chambers, Courtney DePina, Kaitlyn Dobbins, Shaylee Estrella, Sean Fagan, Ruth Gonzalez, Maura Johnson, Bridgette King, Indigo Leighton, Zariah Lima, Summer Mendes, Aileen Nicol, Alana Nicoletti, Allyssa Santos, Emily Snow, Kylie Silva, Paige Strawn, and Stephen Toal.
