Wareham kid chops mane for 'Locks of Love'

Wareham resident Justin Schluter has been growing out his curly red hair since he was in third grade, but the now 12-year-old seventh grader found a great reason to chop it off on Wednesday, September 11.

At Debbie's Images, located at 3 Tyler Ave. in East Wareham, Justin let owner and stylist Debbie Moran tie his hair into a ponytail and lop it off in the name of love — Locks of Love.

"I just saw someone with long hair and I said 'I want that,'" he said of growing out his hair. "It's a lot of work, but it's worth it."

As much as he liked the hair, he decided to give it to charity.

Locks of Love provides wigs to kids and people under 21 who have lost their hair due to a medical condition.

"I like the long hair and I've been back and forth on it, but if he wants to cut it and donate it, it's his choice," said his mother Sarah Schluter who was on hand for the big cut.

Justin didn't go for a military style high and tight, but his shaggy new hairdo might have everyone at school wondering who the new kid is at first look!
