Jun 20, 2011

The Wareham Legion Post #220 Baseball Club started out their second week strong against Kingston on Sunday, June 12 with a 5 to 3 win.

On Monday, June 13 Post #220 had to settle for a 6-6 tie against Bridgewater as the game was called due to darkness after eight innings of play in Bridgewater.

After opening up the game with four runs in the first, Post #220 could only push across two more runs on a fourth inning 2-run Homerung by Michael Sullivan (Wareham/Massasoit Community College).

Shea Doonan (Tabor) went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jake Mele (Plymouth South) pitched 7 strong innings allowing only four earned runs on 10 hits.

After Bridgewater tied the game in the bottom half of the seventh, Tom Wells (Plymouth South) pitched well in the eigth inning to preserve the tie.

Trailing by five runs in the bottom of the seventh, Post #220's rally came up just short in a tough loss to Marshfield Tuesday, June 14. The final score was 8 to 7.

Ian Searles (Wareham) pitched six tough innings allowing only 6 hits and 5 earned runs on the night. Tom Wells (Plymouth South) collected his first American Legion hit and went 1-for-3.

Post defeated Rockland 8 to 6 on Thursday, June 16.  After jumping out to a six run lead after two innings, Post #220 allowed six unanswered runs making it a tie game through five-and-a-half innings of play. After a leadoff walk in the bottom half of the fifth inning to Sean Conway (Wareham), Shea Doonan's (Tabor) double brought him around to score, putting Post #220 up for good.

It was a different story on Friday, June 17 when Post lost to Brockton 13 to 3. Brockton scored eight runs in the fourth inning and put the game out of reach as Post #220 took its worst loss of the season.

Sean Conway (Wareham) went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Billy Peterson (Wareham) had an RBI triple, while Shea Doonan (Tabor) added an RBI double in the top of the fourth.
