Wareham Legion Post baseball round-up

Jul 5, 2011

The Wareham Legion Post #220 Baseball Club started out its fourth week strong against Pembroke on Sunday, June 26 with an 11 to 2 win.

With a great effort on the hill, Davarn Nova pitched six innings, allowing only two hits and two unearned runs. Sean Conway (Wareham) went 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs, while Jimmy Gamache (Tabor) enjoyed a three-hit game.

Hanover defeated Post #220 on June 29 with a score of 7 to 4, ending Post’s four-game winning streak. At the top of the lineup, Nick Gray (Old Rochester) went 3-for-4, while Billy Peterson (Wareham) had another two-hit performance with one run scored. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough for Post #220 as Hanover scored all seven of its runs in the first three innings.

On June 30, Plymouth crushed Post #220 with a final score of 12 to 2. Plymouth opened the game with five runs in the first inning and Post #220 was unable to recover. Even though Post #220 collected more hits (9 to 8) than Plymouth, walks and mistakes proved to be the difference. Sean Conway (Wareham) went 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Nick Gray (Old Rochester), Sean Griffith (Bourne), Shea Doonan (Tabor), and Jimmy Gamache (Tabor) each collected a hit.

Post lost to Barnstable 8 to 3 on July 1. For the third consecutive game, Post #220 collected more hits than their opponent. Barnstable jumped out to an early six-run lead, and Post #220 was not able to close the gap. Shea Doonan (Tabor) and Michael Sullivan (Wareham/Massasoit Community College) each collected two hits on the night, while Ryan Steek (Upper Cape) garnered his first American Legion hit in the bottom of the seventh.
