A Wareham man was arrested with a stolen, loaded handgun at the July 4 celebration in Onset Saturday night, according to Wareham police.

Dominick Alves, 20, of Wareham, was arrested in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun in the area of Onset Center shortly after 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to police, officers encountered Alves and two other men after receiving information that one of the men was possibly carrying a handgun. Police said Alves was arrested without incident and further investigation revealed the gun was reported stolen from the Cape Cod area.

Another man, 18-year-old Markiese Tomkinson of Onset, was arrested and charged with minor in possession of alcohol, after he was found to have a bottle of liquor

Both men were to be arraigned on the criminal charges on Monday, July 6, at Wareham District Court.
