Wareham man charged with human trafficking

A 43-year-old Wareham man is charged with human trafficking following an investigation by Woburn Police of online posts advertising sexual services, officials said on Feb. 17.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Woburn Police Chief Robert Ferullo announced that Antoine Harris was arraigned on Feb. 14 in Middlesex Superior Court, charged with human trafficking, procuring a person to enter prostitution and being a habitual criminal.

“This is an example of a disturbing and growing trend of websites that use classified advertisements to solicit sexual services,” said Ryan. “This case highlights the importance of online vigilance by law enforcement officials as human trafficking cases are not always easy to identify and they may often present as incidents of prostitution or sexual assault.”

Harris was arrested by Woburn Police in August 2016 while officers from the city’s Vice and Narcotics Unit investigated online prostitution ads. According to police, an undercover officer responded to an advertisement and arranged to meet a woman at a hotel located on Commerce Way in Woburn.

Woburn Police said they saw Harris accompany the woman outside the hotel room during the sting. Police said Harris fled after he spotted officers, running to his car and attempting to drive away before Woburn Police arrested him in the hotel parking lot.

Later, Woburn Police learned that the hotel room where the meeting was set to take place was registered to Harris.

Harris was held on $1,000 bail Tuesday following his arraignment. He is scheduled to reappear in Middlesex Superior Court on March 7 for a hearing.
