Wareham man charged with sixth OUI offense after hit-and-run

A Wareham man was charged with operating under the influence for the sixth time after a crash on I-495 on Friday, March 27.

According to Massachusetts State Police, 44-year-old Sean Cushing was arrested after reports that a vehicle had been drag racing and has struck another vehicle while traveling southbound at approximately 5:30 p.m. No injuries were reported by police during the accident.

State Police from the Bourne Barracks arrived on scene to find a 2006 Honda Accord abandoned in the median of I-495, where Cushing reportedly ran into the woods after the crash.

Troopers, assisted by the State Police K-9 Unit, were able to track Cushing down at approximately 6:20 p.m. in a wooded area near the Tremont Mill Pond Diner on Cranberry Highway.

Cushing was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol (sixth offense), operating a motor vehicle with a license revoked for being a habitual traffic offender, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage crash, possession of an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, disorderly conduct, speeding, and a breakdown lane violation.

He was held on $5,000 cash bail pending his arraignment in Wareham District Court on Monday, March 30.
