Wareham man crashes after trying to evade Carver police
A Wareham man was arrested after running from police and plowing into a gas pump at Carver Gas and Convenience in Carver at approximately 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16.
According to Carver police, Garrett Callahan, 25, of 48 Lakeview Terrace was sitting in a parked car at Pine Tree Village in Carver, when Carver Police Officer William Kelly thought he saw Callahan using drugs.
When Kelly “confronted” him, Callahan reportedly “fled the scene at a high rate of speed and a chase ensued," according to police.
In a surveillance video at Carver Gas and Convenience, Callahan’s car is seen taking a sharp turn off of Wareham Road on to Tremont Street, and hitting the gas pumps. Fortunately, a rail between the car and the gas pumps took the brunt of the damage.
Callahan then fled on foot, according to Carver police. Police searched the immediate area, but could not find Callahan.
Police returned to Pine Tree Village to find Callahan hiding at 9 David Road, where he was placed under arrest, according to police.
Callahan is charged with multiple motor vehicle violations, breaking and entering, possession of a Class B substance, possession of a Class D substance, and operating under the influence.
