Wareham man critically injured in crash along Scenic Highway

Jun 14, 2015

A 33-year-old Wareham man was critically injured, after the Perry's ice cream truck he was driving crashed into a pole along westbound Scenic Highway in Bournedale Village, according to broadcast reports. The impact split the truck in half.

Bourne police and fire department officials responded to the crash, and EMS extricated the driver from the wreckage. A MedFlight was requested, but, because of a helicopter delay, the driver was transported via ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital Trauma Center. He suffered life-threatening injuries, and is in critical condition.

Repair crews are on scene replacing the pole, the damage to which caused an estimated 250 people to lose power throughout the Herring Run area.

As of 6:10 p.m., one westbound lane was reopened. Full lane service is expected to resume, once the pole is repaired. Eastbound traffic was not disrupted.

Bourne police are currently investigating the accident.
