Jun 26, 2012

A 62-year-old Wareham man was killed and his wife was critically injured when the motorcycle they were traveling on collided with a van in Foxborough on Sunday, June 24.

George Wentworth was operating the motorcycle with a passenger, his wife, 61-year-old Gail Wentworth, when the motorcycle was "bumped" by a van, "slid on its side for a short distance," and collided with the vehicle, said Foxborough Police Lieutenant Allan Haskell.

The accident occurred at approximately 4:16 p.m. on Central Street (Route 140) in Foxborough. The weather was clear, Haskell said.

George Wentworth was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro where he was pronounced deceased, Haskell said.

Gail Wentworth was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where she is listed in critical condition and in a medically-induced coma, Haskell said.

The operator of the van, 24-year-old Adam Cobb of Foxborough, was treated for minor injuries at Norwood Hospital. He was arrested following an investigation into the accident and charged with motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, Haskell said.

Cobb was held in lieu of $5,000 cash bail, but was expected to post bail and be released, Haskell said.

The accident remains under investigation by Foxborough Police, the State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit, and the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office.
