Wareham man donates replica memorial to military mothers
A replica of a memorial honoring the sacrifices of military families in the Vietnam era was donated to the Blue Star Mothers of Massachusetts Chapter 2 by Wareham resident Charles Wood on Tuesday, Jan. 29.
Wood, along with his college classmates from Connecticut, worked with Connecticut Congressman John Larson to create the Fallen Star And The Gold Star Mother Memorial, on which the replica was based.
The memorial, which sits 22 feet high and 24 feet wide at Goodwin College on the shores of the Connecticut River in East Hartford, was sculpted by Tilghman and Will Hemsley of Maryland.
The memorial is designed to recognize the sacrifices of military mothers and other family members that fallen soldiers left behind.
Blue Star Mother member Ilene Klaver, along with Chapter 2 board members, received the replica from Wood.
