Wareham Mardi Gras V this Sunday

Feb 15, 2010

The Massachusetts Children's Relief Project's Wareham Mardi Gras Celebration V, a colorful family celebration for pre-school and elementary age children, will be held this Sunday, Feb. 21, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Decas Elementary School.

From 1 to 2:30 p.m., children will create floats, hats and masks for a parade. Limbo, hula hoop and musical chair contests will be accompanied by Mardi Gras and Caribbean rhythms. Volunteers from Target will help children with the creations and contests while the Onset Youth Center clowns around with their signature balloon sculptures and juggling.

The parade begins at 2:30. Children march by age and catch thousands of beads collected by friends in Slidell, LA, just for our celebration. Given the economy, the fee is reduced to $4 for participating children. Adults and children bringing non-perishable or baby items receive specialty beads. The donated items go to Damien's Pantry and Baby Point. Baby Point specifically needs diapers, baby wipes and baby socks.

Cash proceeds from this year's Mardi Gras celebration will go to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.  For more information, or to donate or volunteer, contact Sally Morrison at 774-766-2740 or sammorrison@comcast.net.
