Aug 30, 2018

The Wareham-New Bedford Lodge of Elks is currently seeking donations to help construct a memorial monument for veterans near the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

$2,645 of the lodge's $10,000 goal has already been raised with $7,355 remaining.

The lodge is coordinating it's fundraising efforts on behalf of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE) and has already secured donations from organizations such as the Massachusetts Elks Association, the South District PER Association and various other Elks Lodges throughout state.

The Veteran’s Memorial Monument is to be erected at the entrance of the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Oct. 27. The nearby Otis Rotary will be renamed as "Hero's Circle".

The project is coordinated by Friends of Wareham Veterans Council, Inc. President Bob Powilatis and several other fraternal and military organizations including the BPOE.

Lodge Trustee James Callan, Veteran’s Committee Chairman Mike Ward and Lodge Member Ted Hatch are actively involved in helping the project come to its completion by the 100th Anniversary of Veterans Day on Nov. 11.
