Wareham Police activity: Police nab alleged burglar, drug dealer

January 11 - Fourth District Court Sentencing

On June 3, 2010, Wareham Police arrested 57-year-old Lee Pires and her grandson, 21-year-old Adrian Martin, both of Onset, and a third individual, Timothy Morrison, of Wareham. They were all charged with various felonies that included receiving stolen property, larceny, assault and battery on a police officer, and breaking and entering to a building.

All three were found guilty. Pires was given 18 months probation, Martin was sentenced to serve two-and-a-half years at the Plymouth County House of Correction, and Morrison was sentenced to two-and-a-half years at the Plymouth County House of Correction with 6 months to serve, the remainder suspended and probation to January 7, 2014 after his release.

January 14

After a lengthy investigation by Wareham Police assigned to the Cape Cod Task Force, a search warrant was executed at 4 Spectacle Pond Terrace in East Wareham. Cape Cod Task Force DEA Agents along with Wareham Police Detectives, Wareham Police patrolmen, a Barnstable County Deputy Sheriff and his K-9, entered the residence.

Inside the residence they located the homeowner, 41-year-old Geoffrey Cardoza. Intelligence gathered by Wareham Police detectives indicated that Cardoza has been involved in a cocaine dealing organization in the greater Wareham area for several years.

A search of the house yielded approximately 11 grams of a white powdery substance in a clear glassine bag that was consistent with cocaine, a small amount of a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana, approximately $2400.00 cash, and other items commonly used in the drug dealing trade.

Geoffrey Cardoza was arrested and charged with drug possession, Class B, and drug possession to distribute a Class B substance, subsequent offense. He was arraigned at Wareham 4th District Court on January 14.

January 15

Wareham Police patrolmen responded to 11 Prospect Street in Onset after the homeowner reported a break-and-entry. When police arrived, the homeowner told them that numerous items had been stolen from his home, including furniture, paintings, glassware, and other household items.

Officers followed footprints in the snow to 13 Gray Street, across the street from where the break occurred. After further investigation, detectives executed a search warrant at that home and 25-year-old resident John Godbout was arrested. He is charged with receiving stolen property over $250.00, breaking and entering into a building in the daytime, larceny from a building, and malicious destruction of property over $250.00. He was arraigned Tuesday, January 18, at Wareham 4th District Court.

January 17

At approximately 6:00 p.m., Officers Daniel Henderson and Charles Pillsbury responded to the 7-Eleven store at 3106 Cranberry Highway for a reported disturbance between a male and female outside the store.

As a result of the officers' investigation, both parties, who are known to each other, were found to be in possesion of illegal drugs. They were arrested booked at the Wareham Police station.

Alector Varela, 34, of 3137 Cranberry Highway, was found to be in possesion of four individually wrapped glasine baggies containing a white powdery substance consistent with cocaine. He was also in possession of approximately $1,500 in cash. He was charged with possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute (subsequent offense).

His acquaintance, 24-year-old Kaylyn Aranda of 13 Thimbleberry Ave. was also charged with possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute. She was released on $40 bail.

Both parties were arraigned the next morning at Wareham 4th District Court.
