Wareham runner excels at cross country invitational

Freshman Paige Fehskens of Wareham turned in an impressive collegiate debut while competing for the Bentley University women’s cross country team Sept. 4 in the Shacklette Invitational at Saint Anselm College.

Fehskens was the fourth runner across the finish line in the 5000-meter race, recording a time of 20:27. As a Wareham High School student, Fehskens broke several records on the track and field team.

In 2014, she broke a 37-year-old school record in the two mile by 23 seconds with a time of 12:16, qualifying her for the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 4 meet. In 2013, Fehskens broke the school record in the 800 meter run by one-tenth of a second running 2:28.2 and tied the mile record running 5:35 flat.

As a team, Bentley was third of four as the Falcons were edged by Saint Anselm by a single point, 45-46. St. Michael’s captured team honors with a 35.

Next up for the Falcons is the Bruce Kirsch Cup at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds Sept. 17.
