Wareham school resource officer honored for 'exceptional service'
For his efforts in fostering a collaborative atmosphere among students and police, School Resource Officer Karl Baptiste earned the “Exceptional Service Award” from the Massachusetts Juvenile Police Officer’s Association.
Baptiste accepted the honor at the 12th Annual New England School Safety Conference held in Norwood on April 4.
The award is presented annually to a school resource officer who is nominated by peers and often school officials who believe the officer meets a standard of excellence with regard to school, youth and police relationships. As a result of his actions, Baptiste was recognized for increasing school safety, student well-being, and a general climate of mutual support between the schools and the Wareham Police Department.
“His ability to positively interact with the youth of our community is second to none,” said Wareham Police Chief Kevin Walsh. “The relationship between the Wareham school system and the Wareham Police Department is very strong, largely due to the efforts and actions of Officer Karl Baptiste. Wareham should feel very proud that one of our officers received this award.”
