Wareham Selectmen honor volunteer groups for efforts

Feb 8, 2017

Two groups whose members give time and energy to make Wareham a lively place received something from Selectmen on Tuesday – recognition for their hard work.

Members from the Onset Bay Association and Wareham Village Association accepted plaques on behalf of the board during its regular meeting.

Both groups were founded as nonprofits: the Onset Bay Association started in 1994 and the Wareham Village Association followed three years later in 1997.

In Onset, the group is responsible for a multitude of activities throughout the year including summer concerts, 4th of July fireworks and Shakespeare in the park among other events.

In Wareham, the Village Association is dedicated to reinvigorating downtown. To that end, the group has partnered with the Wareham Garden Club to plant flowers on Main Street and has hosted annual trick-or-treating and a Christmas parade.

Selectman Peter Teitelbaum thanked both groups on behalf of residents.

“These are volunteers of all ages that work a lot of hours,” said Teitelbaum. “Both are active groups fulfilling their missions.”
