Wareham Water District to flush hydrants in March
The Wareham Fire District will be flushing water mains beginning on March 3 and continuing throughout the month.
Because of the nature of the work, it is not possible to predetermine how long flushing a given area will take. Water Department crews will be flushing the system from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, typically Tuesday through Friday. Flushing may resume later in the spring or in the fall.
Customers will be notified through the placement of yellow “Hydrant Flushing” signs and the Reverse 911 System. To register to receive alerts, go to warehamfiredistrict.org and click on the logo.
Flushing may temporarily cause dirty and discolored water, or appear cloudy or white due to air trapped in the water. All water system users are cautioned to check the water before use. If the water is dirty, simply wait for a period of time and it will clear up.
The district apologizes for any inconvenience.
Flushing removes sediment that accumulates in water pipes that could produce bacteria if not removed. As a precaution against bacteria, the water department will be slightly increasing the dosage of chlorine to the water during flushing operations.
