On the warrant: Boys & Girls Club

The Boys & Girls Club is requesting a 99-year lease on its town-owned property on Viking Drive in Article 21.

Boys & Girls Club Wareham Unit Director Barbara Sullivan said the club is looking to make major improvements and renovations to the building and needs a longer lease in order to secure funds to do so.

The club is currently in the middle of a five-year lease.

"We're in this very old building that needs a lot of care," Sullivan said. "In order to be able to provide the best that we can for the children, we need to be able to go after larger sums of money."

Sullivan said that guarantors usually want to see longer leases if providing large sums of money.

"[Guarantors] need to know that we have some longevity here in order to be able to do some things that we want to do," she said. "It's all about being able to improve the building so that we can provide better programming."
