Waste in front of Golf Shots a result of unlicensed collection bin company

The Board of Health is working with the owner of Golf Shots Driving Range to clean up garbage the board deemed an "eyesore."

Shaun Lapworth, who owns the driving range located at 123 Sandwich Road, met with the Board of Health on Wednesday to discuss a solution for the waste in front of the range.

"Golf Shots seems to be a favorite place for people to dump their garbage," said Health Agent Bob Ethier. "Its always been that way before there was a collection bin."

The Planet Aid collection bin in front of the range was deemed an "eyesore" by Lapworth, and it was brought to his attention that Planet Aid had been operating without a license.

Ethier had photos of the area on hand, including ones taken by Health Inspector Patrick McDonald earlier that day.

"They have a lot of bins around, and were refused for incomplete paperwork," said Board of Selectmen Chair Judith Whiteside. "I can't say anything other than that... we may be involved in litigation with the company."

Selectmen denied the company a license back in July.

Lapworth suggested blocking the area off to "get people out of the habit of dumping."

"I think we just give [Planet Aid] the boot," said Lapworth.
