Water main breaks on Great Neck Road
Mar 22, 2017
A water main break Wednesday evening on Great Neck Road flooded the street and the basement of a nearby home.
The break was reported around 6:45 p.m. near 17 Great Neck Road. Wareham Water Department Superintendent Andrew Reid said a "hydraulic surge," which increased the pressure in the pipes, caused the break. Pressure increases such as that are fairly common, Reid said, adding the exactly what caused the surge is unknown.
Residents in the area lost pressure for approximately two hours, he said.
Officials shut off water on Great Neck Road from the intersection of Onset Avenue to Squaw's Path to make the repairs.
