The Onset Bay Association canceled the 2024 Blessing of the Fleet, which was to be held Saturday, July 6, due to concerns about the weather.

“We have made the decision to cancel the blessing event this weekend due to the weather forecast,” wrote the Onset Bay Association. “We are not able to utilize our rain date of Sunday for additional logistical reasons.”

The Wareham Department of Natural Resources added, “We have been working closely with the Onset Bay Association watching the weather, and as of now, the risks are too high for potentially severe weather at times through the night and into the day including fog.”

“We thank you all for taking part year after year with this great event and we hope to bring it back next season,” wrote the Department.

On Saturday around 10 a.m., the time the Blessing of the Fleet was supposed to start, the skies were gray and overcast. Rain fell in scattered showers closer to noon.
