Weekend Halloween events draw all kinds of creatures

Kid-friendly Halloween activities weren't hard to find this weekend from the YMCA's Haunted Forest on Friday, to the Onset Bay Association's Halloween Family Fun Day in Onset on Saturday.

The haunted forest featured witches, masked men with machetes, and "ninjas" clad in black from head to toe flying (well, zip-lining) through the air.

"It's a nice safe event." said YMCA volunteer Tammy Wunschel. "It's scary, but it's controlled."

The OBA's Halloween Family Fun Day was buzzing with activity Saturday, with business owners handing out candy throughout downtown Onset.

“We had a great turn-out,” said Mary-Lou Payton of the OBA.

There was art and crafts, scary stories, pumpkin carving, and the day was capped off with a costume parade led by Kat Jones of the OBA dressed as the “Toothless Fairy."

Pumpkin carving at the Band Shell was a hit, according to OBA member Winna Dean.

“We had 80 pumpkins and they were gone in 20 minutes,” she said.
