What's going on in high school track
On Monday, May 20, the girl's track team defeated Case 90-22. There were many winners in individual events including Kate Cunningham in the long jump , Maddie St. Julien in the triple jump and Emily Cummings in the high jump and the 100m hurdles.
Lexie Calvin took first place in the shot put and Caitlyn Berger won the discus.
Aliyah Alley won both the 100m and 200m dash, while Anna Richard took top honors in the in the 400m dash.
Two 4x400 relay teams won as well: Cummings, Hunter Thatcher, Maddie Koslowsky and Cunningham in one race, and Berger, Kia Fernandes, Emma Wynne and St. Julien in another.
Paige Fehskens took first place in the javelin, and won the mile while simultaneously tying the school record, which has been held by Ann Brogioli since 1984, with a time of 5 minutes and 35 seconds.
"Paige amazes me every day at practice and at meets with the things she can and has accomplished," says coach Chris Gardner. "The best part is how she always wants more and how she is never satisfied with her achievements."
Wareham High School also has more girls headed to the Division 3 state meet, with Cunningham, Cummings, St. Julien and Calvin all qualifying.
The boys track team fell to Case 78-58, but some of the boys have already qualified for the state meet in a number of events as well, including Mason Vasconcelos in the mile, and Johnny Irving in the shot put.
