Why I chose not to participate in PAC's debate
To the Editor:
I have agreed to participate in the debates put together by WCTV. The WCTV debates are to be held on March 29 for the three-year term candidates and March 30 for the two-year candidates.
The format will provide ample time for the public and newspaper reporters to ask detailed questions of each candidate on a broad variety of issues.
On the evening of the Onset Protective League's Candidates Night, Move Wareham Forward, a Political Action Committee (PAC) that is committed to certain candidates, surprised all the candidates with an invitation for a separate March 26 event.
Unlike the WCTV debate, a college professor would be moderating and students from a university in Boston with limited knowledge of Wareham would be questioning the candidates about what they think the issues facing Wareham are.
Candidates were not given the courtesy of being consulted as to the timing, location, format, or content of the event.
In my case, I have a previously scheduled Planning Board commitment that I cannot in good conscience ignore.
However, even if I didn’t have this commitment, I would not participate in an event with such an obviously flawed agenda, especially in the same week as the WCTV debate.
