Wickets escapes the auction block

Last week, a legal notice advertised an auction for one of Onset's most iconic properties, Wickets Inn.

According to Wickets management, the crisis has been averted.

"It's not going to happen," said David Wolfram, business manager at Wickets. "We reorganized the business and are coming to a working agreement with the bank."

Wolfram said that the Inn is currently operating and that the restaurant and pub will open in early April. He is looking into advertising for summer help, and the Inn has retained some staff from previous seasons. Wolfram said he is in the process of renewing an inkeepers license for the property that will allow them to sell liquor. The restaurant did not renew its license at the end of last year, leading to speculation that the inn would not open.

He said that financial disagreements between the inn and the bank had led to the auction posting, but that the two sides are working to resolve them.

"It was a matter of over the last year, working out financial agreements with the bank that were not met by both sides," said Wolfram.

The lawyer representing the bank did not respond to calls for comment, and Wolfram said he could not comment on the legal proceedings or when they would be resolved.

"I just know that the auction isn't going to take place - that's all I'm worried about," he said. "The lawyers are handling everything else."
