Wrong-way driver charged in death of Wareham man arraigned
The 26-year-old Brockton man who allegedly killed a Wareham man in June while traveling the wrong way on Route 495 was arraigned at Wareham District Court on August 9.
Pendy Pamphile was arraigned on charges of manslaughter while operating a motor vehicle under the influence and motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence of liquor and reckless operation, according to court documents.
Pamphile was driving south on Route 495 northbound in the area of exits 1 and 2 around 10:20 p.m. on June 16 when he crashed into 43-year-old Christopher Elicier's 2012 Hyundai Veloster coupe. Elicier was ejected from his vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene.
Pamphile was ordered not to drive, to remain drug and alcohol free, and to submit to drug testing, according to court documents. Pamphile must also report to his probation officer two times a week.
A pre-trial hearing will be held on September 27.
Elicier is survived by his wife of 19 years, Cathleen, and sons Jordan Michael, 15, and Ryan Christopher, 6. A 1987 graduate of Wareham High School, Elicier had worked at Taunton State Hospital for 22 years. He was on his way to work when the crash occurred.
Pamphile, who was driving a 2007 Lexus IS200 sedan, was extricated from his vehicle by firefighters using the Jaws of Life. He sustained a serious leg injury.
