You’re a Viking, Charlie Brown
This coming weekend, the Wareham High School students with the Viking Theatre Company will bring the world of the Peanuts comics to life with their production of the musical, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.”
Performances are scheduled for Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18 at 7 p.m. and for Sunday, May 19 at 2 p.m. They will take place at Wareham High School, 7 Viking Drive.
Student director Sophie Norcross said the club made the collective decision at the end of last year to pick “Charlie Brown” as its spring musical.
After the vote, “I listened to the soundtrack, because I’d never heard it before, and I fell in love with it,” Norcross said.
She added, “The cast is really awesome.”
The cast includes seniors Aiden Dillen, Akira Montrod and Koral Davis, who will take their final steps across the Wareham High School stage with thei production.
Dillen, who plays Charlie Brown, said it was “difficult” getting into his character’s headspace; where he is naturally outgoing and confident, Charlie Brown is not.
Davis, who plays Lucy, said the character is “the complete opposite” of who she is in real life.
“It’s helping me see this little kid, who’s sassy and confident… I aim to be a little more like that,” she said.
Montrod, who plays Snoopy, did not have the same reservations.
“Well, I’m a dog,” Montrod said.
Playing such a beloved character was “a lot to take on,” she said. “It’s cool.”
In performing iconic scenes from the Peanuts comics, the cast is able to get at some of the deeper truths presented by the comics themselves.
“You assume it’s going to be a lighthearted, fun show,” said Dillen. However, “It talks about so many things. It talks about growing up, and the loneliness of childhood.”
