Aug 10, 2011

On Wednesday, August 3, the children participating in Boys and Girls Club's free tennis program had a surprise treat when a tennis professional spent an hour with them on the tennis court.

Joanne Byron, professional tennis instructor who introduced tennis last year to the Boys and Girls Club, invited Duxbury tennis professional Pat Coulter to give the children a serve lesson.

"It was amazing to see how much progress the children made in one session. Coulter made it so simple and it was a joy to see how excited the children were with their guest teacher," said Byron.

The six-week program started on July 11. Two age-groups participate: Ages 9-10 and ages 11-13.

The students have will compete in tournaments on Monday, August 15 at 2 p.m. The rain date is August 17 at 2 p.m. The winner will be awarded a new top-of-the-line Prince Tennis racquet, donated by New Jersey-based Prince Sports, Inc.
