Yo! Is a term usually heard by young people as they call out to get one another’s attention. The Gleason Family YMCA and the Boys & Girls Club of Wareham will be giving new meaning to the word YO! (Youth Onboard) as they collaborate to help Wareham teens prepare for summer job searches. Wareham teens are invited to YO! Youth Onboard for Success on Saturday, April 23, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the YMCA.

YO! will seek to provide teens with the tools they need to undertake a job search. Among the topics to be presented at YO! are: How to Complete a Job Application, Decision Making, Work Ethic/employer expectations, Dressing for Success, Mock interviews and more. “The Wareham teens of today will become the Wareham leaders of tomorrow; it is our responsibility to make sure they are prepared to make the right decisions to become successful”, stated Laura Prisco, Excecutive Director of the Gleason Family YMCA. “We jumped onboard immediately, when asked if we were interested in participating”.

The success of the program will depend on community support as many adults will be needed to assist with helping the young people identify their strengths and to conduct mock interviews. Anyone interested should call the Boys & Girls Club or send their contact information to sullivanbgc@comcast.net. Companies or organizations that have giveaways pens, pads, refrigerator magnets, etc, are also asked to make donations of those items, which may be dropped off at the YMCA or the Boy & girls Club. Financial donations of any amount are also needed to provide food and other materials.

Barbara Sullivan of the Boys & Girls Club stated “Neither the Club nor the Y have the resources for this event, but we recognize that it is an important one and are counting on the community to come along side and support the two organizations in this first time endeavor”. Checks to support the program may be made out to the Boys & Girls Club of Wareham with written YO! in the memo line. All donations are strictly for this program. Please contact Barbara Sullivan at 508.295.5400 or Laura Prisco at 508.295.9622 for any questions.
