‘One game, win or go home’: Gatemen gear up for first-round playoffs match
As the Wareham Gatemen stare down their first-round playoff opponents, the Cotuit Kettleers, the team is “optimistic” but understands that it’s anyone’s game, according to General Manager Jay Spinale.
The guardians of the gate will play an away-game against the second-seed Kettleers tomorrow, Aug. 6, in Cotuit, with the game starting at 4 p.m.
Heading into the post-season, the Cape Cod League had close results at the top of the standings
Three of the four teams in the Western division held the #1 spot at different times in the regular season, the Gatemen included, said Spinale; Wareham ended the season as the third seed. The fourth team, the Bourne Braves, ended up going on the hottest streak of the four to close out the season.
The playoffs “really becomes what team gets hot right now,” he added.
With the first round of playoffs being best-of-one, the Gatemen will need to come out of the gate swinging for a chance for the organization’s first title since 2018.
“We have one game, win or go home,” said Spinale. “We feel good.”
